What happens when...

I just remembered those questions that used to appear in our Chemistry exams; "What happens when..."
You were supposed to complete a chemical equation in the lines of :
What happens when:
a) Sulphuric acid is poured over zinc pellets.

I remember being tempted to write "Big bang!... Black smoke!!..." everytime I came across such questions.
